November Workshop – who lives in your head

Who lives in your head? Bach Flower remedies

Arty Amarisa is Coach, Speaker and Trainer with 1st class degree in Psychology and Masters in Investment Banking. She is an Advanced and Certified Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner, Reflexologist and Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner.  Arty has over 15 years of experience in holistic health. Her innate calling is to empower others to overcome self doubt and cultivate inner confidence with compassion.

What is your background, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

My birth town is Gran Canaria a small island which is part of the Canary Islands.  My heritage is Indian, my mother was brought up in Chennai, India and my dad in Suez Canal, Eygpt. Being an only child I was loved immensely yet carried the responsibility live up to the expectations of my parents specially my father who suffered from undiagnosed vascular dementia since my childhood.  Most of my life I felt I carried the heavy burden over my shoulders.
I came to the UK with a group of friends and studied in boarding school in another costal town Eastbourne for a couple of years. Since then I completed a 1st class degree in Psychology and an MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking. I fulfilled my father’s dream and worked in the city for five years within International Asset Management Compliance in London. So I am really good making rules, writing procedures and breaking them too! I also gathered another five years of retail and commercial banking experience when I moved to Birmingham in a national building society.  I responded to my calling of helping others which were the reason I pursued my degree in Psychology and I retrained in coaching, complementary and holistic health which I have been practicing since 2005 and teaching since 2016.

How did you learn about Bach Flowers?

I learned about the Bach Flower Remedies as part of holistic training. I felt its effects the most when I experienced my still birth and the death of my dad 8 weeks apart. I was unable to shed the tears of loss and held on to my grief. The Bach Flower essences transformed my life by gently giving me the safe space to release.

What makes this a healing modality, can you just tell us more about what Bach flowers are?

Bach Flower essences restore emotional balance in a safe and natural way. In the 1920s and 1930s Dr Edward Bach, a well-known bacteriologist, physician and pathologist discovered the Bach Flower system. Bach flower remedies consist of 38 remedies that address negative states of mind to help you control and balance your emotions and gain peace of mind.

Can you share a story about how using Bach has helped a client of yours or someone you know?

One of my clients in his 30s had gone through a sudden breakdown where he had lost his eye sight temporary and was experiencing constant tremor. With the use of allopathic medicine and under the care of the medics, the Bach Flower Essences helped him achieve inner harmony on a vibrational level. The Rescue Remedy addressed the sudden shock and trauma, additional Rock Rose Bach Flower Essence helped reduce the extreme terror and Aspen Bach Flower Essence eased the fear of the unknown.

What will the workshop be about? What can our members expect to learn?

The members will learn about ‘Who Lives in Your Head’ which will cover

  • The importance of emotional regulation on our wellbeing
  • How the Bach Flowers Essences help you experience emotional balance
  • Self help tool of journaling the common emotions of sadness, fear, disgust and anger to bring about harmony

october WORKSHOP – IMMunity: Gutt health is wealth

Immunity: Gutt Health is wealth

This months workshop is from expert & Nutrition Coach Ravneet Panesar who realised her weight was just the ‘surface marker’ of how I judged her self-worth.

What is your background?

I’m your typical south Asian woman, daughter of immigrant parents, reasonable educational attainment yet suffered most of my life feeling unfulfilled and unhappy. It all came to a head when I got pregnant with both my boys! I put on over 20kgs (44lbs) after my first pregnancy and I felt ostracized and judged by people who seemed more concerned about my physical appearance than my mental health.

I tried so many weight loss methods/diets/supplements. Even at my ‘fittest’ I was still trying to perfect my body, forever dissatisfied and then regaining the weight. I suffered post-natal depression after my second child and promised I would focus on my mental well-being NOT the number on the scales. After successful CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) I finally found the tools to start my self-healing journey and figure out what mattered to me.

Where does your passion for nutrition come from?

My passion to become a nutrition coach came from my desire to work with other mums who have been be struggling with post baby body issues, ready to improve their health without all the faff and falsities of the mainstream fad diets.. I wanted to prove the huge money making diet industry wrong so that other mums didn’t have to go through the struggles of impossible plans and diets.

I now help mums regain self-confidence and self-esteem, supporting their transformations through a ‘less is more’ approach and gentle nutrition. No ‘all or nothing’ quick fixes. I support you to visualise the bigger picture by changing your food behaviours through empowerment of choice.

Why is gut health so important? How can it help us holistically in our life?

You have trillions of microbes that reside in your gut and they have a huge impact on many aspects of your health including your ability to digest ‘healthy’ food. These bacteria, yeasts, fungi and viruses release chemicals that influence your weight, immunity, cardiovascular system, mental health and even your susceptibility to acne, allergies and cancer. Crazy important right!

Your gut microbiome plays a key role in controlling oxidative stress and inflammatory responses as well as improving metabolism and energy expenditure during endurance exercise. With better immunity, you’re less like to suffer illnesses and gut problems – pretty awesome!

There are now proven links between your gut bacteria diversity and your mental health, yup – anxiety, depression and dementia can be triggered by a compromised gut microbiome.

Can you tell us a story of a client you worked with and how the changes you recommended changed their life?

I recently caught up with one of my December 2020 graduates and she shared:

“I have defo taken soo much on after the course and honestly it has been fab, eating the rainbow colours and whatever I want in moderation and not being on a diet

My confidence has increased soo much after the course, I cannot explain. I always felt as an Indian Mum, I needed to be able to cook all the food all the time for my little family, but the tips, quick tricks and nutritional advice that I have learnt from you, are lifelong and honestly the best!l

I don’t want to waffle but a couple of things from this year, because I was not obsessed about my weight or food and was not stressy:

– Completing my legal studies

– Buying a house

– Actually going down the slide in soft play (this was a biggy!)

– Wearing dresses (which show my legs – like what  who am I?)

– Doing kickboxing 2-3 times a week (my fave sport/workout)

– From size 24-26 to size 18”

What could be better than this? Her size is the last thing she lists because the changes are so much more profound than what we weigh and how we look, it’s all about how we feel.

You’ll be talking about immunity, what does it mean to have a healthy immune system?

The overall function of the immune system is to prevent or limit infection. So people who are immune-compromised, including those with genetic immune disorders, immune-debilitating infections like HIV, and even pregnant women, are susceptible to a range of microbes that typically do not cause infection in healthy individuals.

Your immune system can recognise signals to address a threat/problem. If you have a less than ideal immune response, problems arise, like infection. On the other hand, when an immune response is activated without a real threat or is not turned off once the danger passes, different problems arise, such as allergic reactions and autoimmune disease. An immune system ‘too switched on’

So good immune health = a good healthier life

What will the workshop be about? What can our members expect to learn?

The attendees will learn;

  • What Gut Bacteria/Microbiome are
  • What compromises our microbiome
  • What you can do to support your gut health

Plus: Pro and pre biotic handout

September workshop – Being Vs doing – Taking care of your time & energy

Being Vs Doing – Taking care of your time & energy

This months expert is life coach Kruti Shah. She started her life coaching journey in summer 2020, she is certified from the Jay Shetty Certification School.

What is your background, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

I started my life coaching journey in summer 2020 after working in the charity sector for roughly 5 years. My career background has been in the youth and education sector, which I really enjoyed and continues to be a keen interest of mine. I am also currently working as a civil servant in the UK government, and continue with my coaching activities alongside.

You call yourself a self-leadership & clarity coach, what does this mean?

I have often felt that leadership has become a bit of a buzz word in society, and tends to focus more on corporate or executive leadership, political leadership, religious leadership etc. Little emphasis seemed to be placed on how individuals can develop personal/self-leadership to thrive in life. Through my coaching, I encourage clients to build reflective practices which encourages an enquiry of the self, including identifying your values and beliefs, their learning and communication style, and shifting perspectives that bring ease into their life. This helps them to show up more authentically with different people in their life, whether it is family, friends, or in a workplace setting, and that too without doubt or hesitation. This is the kind of work that excites me, and that I believe the world is in need of at present. It is an amazing feeling to witness the steady growth in people that I have worked with!

Can you share a story about how the work you have done has impacted a client?

I worked with a client who was facing some challenges with her workplace environment as well a starting to think about what her forward career path is. We worked together for two months to uncover her motivations, draw out past experiences which have fuelled her and would want to attract more of in her career, as well as shed light on what specifically has been affecting her workplace relationships. Consequently, she was more able to communicate honestly with a colleague and put forward her concerns in a confident and unapologetic manner. Here is what she said about her experience of working with me: “Kruti really took the time to listen to my thoughts and reflections, which then helped me feel comfortable and confident enough to guide the direction of the sessions. She pushed me to really unpick my thought processes and patterns in a positive way which led to me making new realisations about the right next steps for me, or where behaviours and habits were unhealthy or unproductive.”

What will the workshop be about? What can our members expect to learn?

It will be an interactive and practical workshop to help you define your relationship with your time and energy, and the value we place on it. It will also cover some goal setting which is necessary for the way you commit and feel motivated by something. You will leave with a visual takeaway that will guide you to manage your time and energy more meaningfully.

May Workshop: Heal with the magical power of crystals

Heal with the magical power of crystals

The May workshop is all about crystals and will be run by Harjot Gabri. Harjot is a holistic coach, reiki crystal master teacher, mindful and meditation teacher and recently during the pandemic last year qualified as a rapid transformation therapist. She helps empower women to overcome their limiting beliefs, release those blocks, rewire and install new beliefs and support them on their body mind spirit journey so they can live and enjoy life in a more mindful and abundant flow.

Can you tell us a bit about you and your background?

My background is I was born and raised in Kenya in a small town kisumu. I moved to the UK in 1996 and started my career in the banking industry. i was very fortunate to have had a very successful career in management for 22 years until 2018 when i took redundancy. This came to me at a time i was not really feeling aligned  to the work i was doing as i always knew i had a higher purpose in life  and this was my awakening call. The universe gave me an opportunity of my dream of being my own boss and serving humanity with love, light  joy and abundance and thus my business ZenHtreasures was born.

How did you begin your journey with crystals?

My journey with crystals started at a very young age of 7-8. I used to collect shiny rocks and draw on them, which interestingly when i did my reiki some of the stones i had painted as a kid had similar symbols as used in reiki.  I got my first crystal from my mum who on her first visit to India got me an Amethyst and a Clear Quartz. I felt so connected to them like they were my lost friends found. Their energy was like an armour to me and they helped me in every journey of my life.

Why are crystals so important to our wellbeing?

Just like we take supplements, crystals are that physical connection to our human vibration and frequency.
What is your favourite crystal and why?i have a few favorites but the Amethyst Clear Quartz and Rose Quartz are my go to’s. Its because i have a deep connection with them and they are my inner guidance friends. For Example the Amethyst is my meditation crystal. its helps me connect with my higher self and helps to balance my minds chit chat Rose Quartz keeps my heart space open and my self love connection

What will you be teaching our members during the workshop?

At the workshop I will be teaching you what crystals are.  How to choose crystals. How they can help us in our everyday life. How to connect ,charge and cleanse them.  Introduction to crystal grids

April Workshop: Quill & Chill Creative Art Session

Quill & Chill creative art session with Tina Gajjar

Anyone purchasing this kit from the VishwArt website will also get the templates included to create the tealight holders along with a 10% discount when they use code GROWME at checkout.

What is your background, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

My first job was working as a Temp Receptionist in a very small IT company as I prepared to move to my next degree in Fashion. This very quickly turned to a permanent position moving from receptionist and ending my 14 year tenure as a Director of Operations to have my first child. Since then, I have worked in senior management roles in Aerospace manufacturing and maintenance operations. Travelling the world and working in different countries until I left the business to have my second child.

I knew I didn’t want to go back to the crazy work life and really wanted to spend my time with my children, and I was lucky to have had a creative background and somehow stumbled upon the Art of Quilling whilst on my maternity leave. Having never tried this craft, I was intrigued and bought my basic kit to start quilling. I had no idea what I was doing, and through trial and error, I made my first paper quilled unicorn. I loved this process and one design led to another and within a few months, VishwArt – my creative art business was born. I knew this was the calling as it felt so right. I was doing something that brough me so much peace and gave happiness to others. Not to mention the fact that I was now spending time with my kids .. it was definitely a “win win” situation.

Can you tell us a bit about using art as a therapy to help us emotionally?

I have always found creativity as my way of expressing what I can not verbally express. Having spent months quilling, I found that it was really helping me deal with my post-natal depression.

Not to mention that I was struggling with anxiety and this process of creating and working with something tangible was helping me stay calm, focus on the present and really work through the anxiety.

Art therapy is said to have proven rather beneficial in helping us emotionally. Immersing oneself in any form of creative activity allows one to help make sense of things and understand ourselves better. It can also help us resolve complicated feelings, or find ways in dealing with them.

Art therapy allows us to be in the present moment, practice mindfulness and this in essence takes away the feelings of anxieties which in a lot of cases is to do with the fear of the future.

Can you share a story about how the work you do impacts your clients?

Since starting to teach this beautiful and ancient art of quilling, I have been invited to many such groups to host masterclasses. It has been absolutely beautiful to get the feedback on these classes as each of the attendees have felt calm, grounded and in a state of relaxation by the end of each session. And this is the feeling that I have personally experienced since I’ve started quilling, when in a state of panic or discomfort, I resort to quilling and I find myself totally calm and centred by the time I’m finished.

A lot of my students are young children as well, and the feedback from their parents have been so positive and inspiring that the kids leave their devices to one side to pick up their quilling kits and start creating from that they’ve learnt during their sessions with me.

What will the workshop be about? What will you be teaching our members?

The workshop will briefly touch on art as a form of therapy and then introduce the members to the history of Paper Quilling and fundamentals of quilling. During the session, we will be learning the basic and fundamental techniques of Paper Quilling and we will be making a Paper Quilled Tea Light Holder. This will be created through a process of learning the techniques how to create each element that forms the final creation. The techniques are very simple to follow and everyone can quill!
